This one-day course will introduce aquatint, an etching process which enables you to create wide ranging tonal effects in your prints from very subtle to rich dark tones.
Working with copper plates, students will be introduced to the technique and processes of tonal etching using the traditional aquatint method – learning to lay and fix aquatint to the plate before stage biting in an acid mordant to build up a tonal image. Following plate preparation, etching and proofing, images may be developed further using drypoint and burnishing. Working with coloured ink, students will create their own small edition of prints.
This course is suitable for beginners and those looking to expand on their existing etching skills.
