To all print makers, new visitors and existing members of the badger press. Many of you will have heard the exciting news, but just in case you haven’t, I’m very pleased to say we’re back, up and running and our doors are open to the public once again!

It’s been a busy few months since we had to close our doors after Stephan and the previous team stepped down at the end of January. Since then we have been working hard to retain the facilities and keep the press open and available to it’s users.

Hopefully our recent shutdown hasn’t caused too much disruption to your printing activities and you’re itching to join us, get printing and explore new creative possibilities. The press will run with a very similar methodology to that it had before with a few tweaks and changes. We are an open access fine art print studio, offering courses to suit everyone, providing studio hire and training in all aspects of printmaking whilst promoting printmaking and supporting artists. We’ll be updating the website over the next couple of weeks with revised information and a new course programme, so stay tuned!

The new course programme will be up and running very soon with the return of many of your favourite courses and tutors as well as some new faces with new and exciting processes. As always if you can’t find the course you are looking for, or there’s a process that you are itching to learn that we don’t currently offer then please get in touch and we will do our best to find a tutor and develop a course to meet your needs. Equally if you think you have what it takes to teach a course or have a unique process you wish to share with others then please get in touch, we’d love to have you on board!

Finally, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the previous team for all the hard work they have done over the last two years, especially Stephan; without his input and continued support, advice, guidance the press would be in a very troubled situation and I would not have been in a position to continue his great work. Also, a massive thanks those who have helped out over the last couple of months, your hard work and continued support have been an inspiration; it’s very much appreciated.

If you have any queries, suggestions or want to get involved then please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Hope to see you at the press very soon!

The week long course will use techniques such as carborundum, chine colle, collage, monoprint & multiple plate printing to explore how the various languages of print can generate new ideas. The course will be structured so as to introduce the techniques through experimentation & improvisation around ideas developed whilst on the course. The studio is based in the heart of the village, with the C12th abbey and its cloisters directly opposite. There is plenty of accommodation within the village and in the surrounding area, to suit all budgets, family requirements and facilities.

The basic cost of the course will be £300 inc vat including all course materials, excluding flights and accommodation. The nearest airport is Bergerac, with daily flights by Ryanair & Flybe. Lists of suitable accommodation can be supplied if required.

The team will be leaving Badger Press on 31st January and there are discussions currently taking place about a group taking over. In the meantime there will be a short hiatus whilst arrangements are put in place. Apologies if you’re keen to get on a course or come and use the Press. You can continue to contact us via the online form and will reply and pass on your email to the new team. The website will continue to run and we will update it with news of the handover.

In the meantime, on behalf of Kirstie, Paul, Angela and myself I would like to thank you all for your help and support. We have thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and it’s been a real thrill meeting so many people that have now become good friends. We’ll still be at the studio and hope to help it to continue, we’re needed by our (ever expanding) families and learning to cope with all the new things in our lives. We love printmaking and we love The Badger Press, it is a truly exceptional, inspiring and wonderful place and it is held together by the passion of our talented artists. We salute you all.

Stephan

Do you have a creative idea? How about having a space to host your creative event/project/idea? Then take part in Creative Days, A Shop Window for Talents!

We could provide you with an empty shop for three days in March, so you can turn your idea into reality. All you need to do is just send us your idea.

Creative Days aims to celebrate Havant Borough’s creative talents on the 9th, 10th and 11th March 2012. Empty shops will be unlocked, so creative projects can flourish in Havant’s town centre and Leigh Park. Priority will be given to individuals/groups, who have a link with the Borough (via the workplace or residence…please make that clear in your application).

As we are celebrating Havant Borough’s creativity, all formats will be accepted. Each entry will be allocated 5 minutes in total, so bear that in mind when you send us in your idea! (For example, send a video of maximum 5 minutes or send a written document, which should not take more than 5 minutes to read. These are just a few suggestions. Be creative, this is your time to shine so show us your talent and potential!)

Your idea should be received by post at the latest on the 2nd January 2012. Please send your ideas to:

Léa Guzzo,
Cultural Officer
Community Development
Havant Borough Council,
Public Service Plaza,
Civic Centre Road,
Havant,
PO9 2AX

For more information, contact Havant Borough’s Customer Service on 02392 446 019 or email me on lea.guzzo@havant.gov.uk before Tuesday 20th December.
